How To Host Your Own CDN (content delivery network)

Every website’s search ranking always depends upon the website’s speed and after the release of Google page insights every blogger wants it’s site to get high score in Google page insights. To get that Goal CDN plays vital role to speed up your website. Website that loads quickly also improves user experience and helps build loyal readership.
Every search engine is now promoting to have a CDN, either it’s Google or Yahoo both says Best Practices that serving static content from a cookieless domain or using a Content Delivery Network (CDN) helps.
Using a CDN service would be expensive for a new website or small blogs/website. So Here’s How to Setup Your Own CDN.
But before we start, lets have a little concept about the static content and CDN (Content Delivery Network), so whenever next you visit to any page speed test website, you might be able to understand what are they talking about.
What Is Static Content?

Static content is the content such as images, Javascript and CSS files that are served along with your webpage. Server sets cookies for all the HTTP requests. So small cookies get attached to these static content as well. However, since there is no direct user interaction with these resource, they need not have cookies attached. We can reduce the request size by serving these resources from a CDN or a cookieless domain.
What Is CDN (Content Delivery Network)?

The Basic Definition Stated As:A content delivery network (CDN) is a collection of web servers geographically distributed across the globe.
The server with the fewest network hops or the server with the quickest response time is chosen to deliver the content, thus improving response time. CDN is generally used to serve static content and does not set any cookies. Thus the request size is also reduced.
How To Create Your Own CDN (Content Delivery Network)?

The Easiest Way is to register a new domain like www.cdnyourdomainname.com etc , but if do not have enough budget to register a new domain for your static content then you can also create a sub Domain for your domain, which can also act like CDN or cookie less domain.
Here I will discuss about the creating sub domain’s CDN, So to do that Login to your Cpanel and Follow the Steps below:
  • Go to Subdomains Options.
  • Create a Subdomain i.e cdn.yourdomain.com.
  • Point that subdomain to your public_html folder (in case of hosting another domain on a shared server you should point your subdomain to that domain directory).
  • After you have created your subdomain, go to the Advance DNS Zone at your Cpanel.
  • Add CNAME Record as shown.
  • Once you have added CNAME record click save/add to save your settings.
  • Now go to your WordPress Website and Install W3 total Cache Plugin to your website.
  • Go to the CDN menu and Add your CDN subdomain which you have created earlier.
You may leave other parameters default, and now you have created your own CDN.
